Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Recovery Coaching and 12 Step Sponsorship?
A 12 Step sponsor is a member of the program who guides someone in the 12 Step program. Their main responsibility is to take people through the steps and teach how to apply the principles to one's life. They are not trained professionals, they are not paid, they are of service.
Recovery Coaches have both lived experience and training. They work with you, letting you design your own goals and program. Recovery Coaches are concerned with forward movement. They are specialized to support you unconditionally and are committed to hold you accountable. As they charge a fee, this is met with reliability, professionalism, and confidentiality.
What is the difference between Recovery Coaches and Counsellors/Therapists?
Counsellors/Therapists generally work with past or underlying issues. Counsellors/Therapists are licensed professionals. Counsellors/Therapists are limited in availability.
Recovery Coaching is strengths based and sees you as resourceful. Concerned with what you want to do to overcome obstacles, move forward and live your best life. Coaches are readily available for support and can set up a plan according to your needs.
How does Recovery Coaching work and what does it cost?
I offer a free 30 minute consultation to discuss your needs, how I can help and answer any questions you have.
We connect virtually, by zoom. If you are in North or West Vancouver we can arrange to meet in person. Otherwise, my experience has been that connecting virtually is very effective.
Length and frequency of sessions is entirely up to you. This is your recovery plan, whatever your needs are I will work to support.
I request payment for a 6 hour block of time as a retainer which you can draw from as you use your time. A 6 hour block of time is $750 plus gst.
Text check-ins are free while working with me. However, they are limited to check-ins and crisis needs. When more support is needed a phone call or zoom session will be requested to best support you, this will be drawn from your retainer.
What is Recovery Capital?
In recovery you get the opportunity to assess what you want for yourself - what is working and what is not. Recovery Capital refers to one's resources at hand, both internal and external. The breadth and depth of these resources are what help initiate and sustain recovery - when utilized. It is also beneficial to assess and re-assess Recovery Capital regularly. As a Recovery Coach, I help you connect to your Recovery Capital. The more connected you are, the better equipped you are for successful recovery and to live your optimal life.
Change can start through a conversation. You are not alone, I am a phone call away.
